FOOTBALL.

PRIMARY SCHOOLS’ COMPETITION

FOR FINDLAY SHIELD

On Friday afternoon, 28th inst., the Hastings North and Hastings West Schools met on the North School grounds to try conclusions in the first match of the season. The ground was rather heavy and so the play was very much in the nature of a scramble. Although some dashing attempts at scoring were made by players on- both sides, neither side were successful in crossing the line. For the West Schoo] Wellwood, Crawford and Keith (forwards), Graham (half), and Stubbs (fullback), were the outstanding players, while Garnett and Heaton (forwards), Botherway (half), and Wattie, Bone and Wise were prominent in the North'team. Mr. A. Lake satisfactorily controlled the game.
