LONDON UNIVERSITY.

NEW SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS.

(Received 31, 8.40 a.m.) London, May 29.

The King, accompanied by the Queen, laid the foundation stone of the new Schoeff of Economics, in connection with the London University. The project received substantial support from London merchants, while the trustees of Sir Ernest Cassel donated £300,000, the Lord Mayor, on behalf of the city, today, donating a further £50.000. Replying to an address of welcome. His Majesty paid tribute to the response of the Universities to the call of the war and the brilliant contributions to science of modern warfare. He emphasised that the London degree was valued far beyond the British Isles and the advantages afforded by resources of the metropolis giving the university an unique influence in the Education system of the Empire.—(A. and N.Z- and Reuter.)
