MAORIS’ FAREWELL TO PRINCE.
The following telegram was despatchid by Hon. Sir W. H. Herries, Native Minister, and Hou. Dr. Pomare, Minister representing the Native Race in the Executive Council, His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales: — ■ ‘‘On behalf of your Maori people we wish von a pleasant voyage over the Sea of Kiwa. The short flight of tlie Kotuku-rercngatahi’ will always bo treasured. Tangaroa shall calm the waves and Tawliirimatea temper the winds so that you may return co your dear ones in safety. It is the earnest hope of your loyal Maori people that in the years to come you may again visit Ao-te-roa. Tatou, Tatou. Haera ra.” The reply from Lieut.-Colonel Grigg, Secretary to His Royal Highness, said: — ‘‘The Prince of Wales greatly appreciates the touching message of farewell telegraphed by you on behalf of the Maori people of Ao-te-roa. His Royal Highness will never fgrget their loyal welcome and writ always have their interests at heart. He hopes for the day when he may visit Ao-te-roa again. Kia Ora.”
