General Manager of the Christchurch City Electrical Department asked expression of opinion regarding a proposal that the Govern men I issue all certificates in connection with the licensing of wire-men for electrical work, which would hold good throughout the lountry, instead of the present system, whereby each l<x-al body made its own regulations and conducted its own examinations, resulting in the position that wiremen qualified in one district were not able to practice their trade in another district. —To receive support. Richardson. McCabe and Co. said Mr Richardson would he in Hastings on Monday next, to go into the rjuestion of the balance re the Diesel engine contract.—Referred to Electrical Committee and Engineer. The Minister of Railways, re Heretaunga street railway crossing, explained that a crossing keeper is provided at this crossing for trains approaching the station from the south. The protection afforded by crossing-keepers is superior to that given by bells, more particularly at, a crossing so near to the station as Heretaunga street where the hells would be ringing so frequently as to lose their significance as a warning. No crossing-keeper is provided at Palmerston North at the crossing which is supplied with bells. —It was decided that the Minister be informed that there was no crossing-keeper at the St. Aubyn street crossing, and that hi< attention be called to Lyndon road crossing. W. A. Weaver, an engineer in the electric power house, who has broken down in health after seven years’ s»*rvi<e. mostly on the night shift, asked for a month's sick leave on lull pay, ami after that period to lie found light employment until such time as the Electrical Engineer thinks he is fit to return to his old position.—Referred to Electrical Committee with power to act.
