FARMERS’ UNION CONFERENCE
Feilding, Afay 26. The Farmers’ Union Conference continued to-day. Air. W. J. Polson was elected president for the coming year. The principal remits adopted were: — That the Government appoint a representative to seek new markets in Eastern countries. That the Government erect dips and cattle yards to fight the tick pest. That the Government appoint a petroleum expert to seek deposits of oil. That the Dominion Conference organise an exhibition to shew the public raw material and its cost, and the finished article and the price, with a view to shewing that the high prices are not caused by the price paid for raw material. The conference endorsed the proposal of the Welfare League for an industrial Conference. AUCKLAND BRANCH. Auckland, Alay 26. The annual conference of the Provincial Farmers’ Union resolved to urge the Government to insist on a free market for New Zealand butter. The desirability of establishing a working agreement between the I armors’ Union and industrial unions was emphasised by several speakers. It was decided that a committee of three members of the union be appointed to inquire into the aims and aspirations of industrial unions with a view to bringing about a working agreement between producers from the land and industrial producers.
