TWO STRONG PARTIES. LIBERAL LEADERS’ INTENTIONS. Christchurch, May 25. The Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. \V. D. S. MacDonald, in a statemen expressed hitnself confident in the solidarity of the Liberal party, lie said : "While numerically it is not so strong as it was prior to the election, the calibre of the men and the determination to fight the cause of Liberalism is stronger than ever. While we realise that the Government has very greai difficulties ahead, and will need the help and assistance of all rightthinking men. still there must come times when there will be very great differences of opinion in connection with the domestic legislation of New Zealand. When any great differences of that kind occur, the Liberals will fight for what they believe to be right. “As far ns one c.an judge at the moment with Independents and men who are dissatisfied. tae whole position nutside the solid members of the Liberal and Reform parties is chaotic, and it will only be after the House meets that one-will be able to judge exactly the strength of the opposing forces.
“As far ns the Liberal party is concerned. we toueht the election with a progressive policy, and ns ar as possible we want to see our line of policy given effect to. It is not our intention to harass or emharrns the Government in •my way. and all legislation that is tor the general welfare of the people will receive our support.
