WAIPAWA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. (Own Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the above was held on Tuesday evening. Present: Crs. H. M. Rathbone (Deputy Mayor) chair, F. Holt, G. Hunt, F. Witherow, W. Simpson, M. Sebley and Jas. Bibby. Leave of absence was granted the Mayor. Mr- W. I. Limbrick. CORRESPONDENCE. Mr. Martin, Counties Solicitor,. advising re change of statutory holiday, his opinion being that a change could not be made effective until June, 1921. —Received.

Lawrence Borough Council, forwarding a resolution by that bpdy in favour of new methods in levying Hospital and Charitable Aid levy.—Resolution strongly supported. T. F. Martin, solicitor, advised re motor hurdles —that is slight elevations to impede speed of motor traffic at intersections or dangerous corners—and considered the council liable for accidents resulting therefrom. —Matter deferred. until next meeting. Waipawa Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, re annual levy, that of the Waipawa Borough being £l4l 19/6 for' the year or a quarterly levy of £35 10/-. —Amount authorised for payment. OVERSEER’S REPORT. The overseer reported on the work done for the month. On Cr. Witherow’s suggestion metal patching is to be done to road above the traffic bridge. GENERALCr. Simpson brought up the question of charges to admit the public to football matches and remarked that no charge was made last Saturday. The ground badly needed improvement and the idea of the charge, as decided on at last meeting, was tor the purpose of providing funds for improvement.— The matter was left in the hands of the Reserves Committee. Cr. Simpson asked what steps had been taken to give effect to a former resolution that a sum be spent on the Domain. The town was fortunate or unfortunate in having three parks, but had the time been available on the occasion of the Prince’s recent visit th<KQ| would not have been a presentaraP park to have taken him to.—Cr. Rathbone replied that the matter had not been overlooked. Pay-sheet as follows was passed for payment:—Gasworks £lO6 8/3, waterworks £lB 4/-, general £212 0/11. —Total £334 13/2.
