HAWKE’S BAY AUTUMN SHOW.

Hastings is once more on the eve of one of its carnival events. This is the Hawke’s Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Society’s Autumn Show, J which is now such a recognised in- ! stitution that it vies in point of r.-. I terest , and popularity with the I society’s Dig spring carnival. The, | society has every reason to be proud ’of the high reputation gained for its annual autumn exhibitions, for the general concensus of opinion is that it is and has been for some years the leading fruit show in the Dominion. That it is likely still to maintain this reputation may be gathered from the fact that the entries in the fruit section are even more numerous than last year. Th’ same remark applies to other Editions, the total number of entries being considerably in excess of la-H

year. j The important matter of the co apetitions, it is satisfactory to not:., is likely to be one of the strongest features of the show, lor the hors, competitions have all filled particularly well, and a capital afternoon’s sport on Wednesday may safely he predicted. The side shows, too, will be very much better than at anv Autumn Show for years past. The society has again been able to arrange for excursion fares from Waipukurau and intermediate stations, a concession which was in abeyance during the war, and this privilege is certain to be appreciated by visitors from the soutuern ena oi Hawke’s Bay. The show will be open to the public on Tuesday evening, when the produce shed, stalls, etc., will be, lit by electric light. On Wednesday, the big day of the show, it will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., so that those ■who attend will be able to see all the show and also enjoy the fine programme of competitions in the afternoon. ’• . For those who take their lunch with them hot water is provided free of charge of Wednesday. Exhibitors should note particularly that lambs, calves, poultry, fancy, butter, eggs and floral exhibits must be on the ground by Wednesday at 9 a.m., but that exhibits in all the other classes are required to be delivered on the showground not later than 11.30 a.m. on Tuesday.
