MOTHER’S INSANE ACT.
Auckland, Feb. 3
At the Supreme Court, Constance Elizabeth Parsonage was charged with the manslaughter of her infant child, who was drowned in a creek at Pokeno. The evidence showed her home was destroyed by fire and a few days later the woman and child were found in a creek, the child being drowned. The woman’s mind was affected, probably by the fire, and she did not realise what she had done. A verdict was returned of not guilty, on the ground that the woman was insane at the time when the act was committed. She was acquitted and ordered, to remain in custody.
