I MONTHLY MEETING. I j The monthly meeting of the above body was held on Monday evening, when there were present the Mayor (Mr. E. A. Goodger) in the chair. Councillors McLean, . Bryce, Atkins, and Manning, anu the Acting-Town Clerk (Mr 3. Warren.) | CORRESPONDENCE. j Messrs Hi W. Climie and Soli wrote asking permission to withhold their reports oil electric light and sewerage schemes for another 1 month, in order to make certain observations with a view fo making - the reports mOffl complete. —The action of the Mayor in granting such permission was endorsed. Mr. G. B. Ashley, Town Clerk, who is on sick leave, which expires on the 10th inst., wrote stating that his medical adviser deemed it necessary that he (Mr. Ashley) should undergo a surgical operation, and asked for an extension of the leave which the council Bad kindly granted him.—On the motion of Cr. Atkins, seconded by Cr. McLean, it was decided to extend Mr. Ashley’s leave of absence for a further month on full pay. I The Water Manager reported I that he was visiting every house in | the borough having water conneci tions, with a view to bringing the ! water accounts up to date. I The Mayor moved that the council make, formal application to the : State Advances Office for a jjrant 'of £lO,OOO for workers’ homes.— Seconded, by Cr. Atkins and carried unanimously. ’ The council decided to take steps to enforce the by-law dealing with the speed limit of motor vehicles within the borough. The pay-sheet, amounting to £406 18/4 general account and £l7 14/2 gas account, was passed for payment. At the previous meeting, the council, in committee, decided to increase the Borough Engineer’s salary to £312 per annum.
