THE “1914 STAR.”

THE MONS CLASP. His Majesty the King has approved of the issue of a clasp to officers, warrant officers, non-commissioned 'officers and men who have been awarded the ”1914 Star” and who actually served under the fire of the enemy in France and Belgium between the sth August, 1914, and midnight 22nd-23rd November, 1914- . The clasp will be in bronze, and will bear the inscription sth. August-22nd November, 1914.” In undress and setvice uniform, when ribands 1 of*" .worfi, 'the grant' of the clasp, will -be denoted by the wearing .of a sinall silver rose in the centre of riband. ■ . , Quite , a number of New Zealanders are entitled to wear this elasp as well as a number of officers in the British Army who are known in New Zealand or have connections here. The lipt, though not claiming to be complete, is fairly lengthy, and from it are selected the following names, familiar to Hawke’s Bay residents. Capt. E. B. Jardine, M.C-, R.AM,C. (Napier); Capt. W. ;H. Johnston, <.A.M.C- (Stratford and Wellington) ; Capt. A. D. D. McLean; Camerbn Highlanders (Hawke’s Bay); Brig.-Gen. W. R. N- Madocks, C.M.G., D. 5.0., i.E-A.; Major N. W. pharazyn, M.C., cI.F.A. (Wellington); Brig.-Gen. G. S. Richardson, C. 8., C.M-G., CB.E., N.Z.S.C-, with R. N. Division (Wellington). THE EVER LIVING DEAD. Following are the names of those ■vho earned the clasp but w-ere killed during, the war: Lt.-Col. C. F. G. Humphries, D-S.O-, M.C., D-C.M-, qualified with . the RA.S.C. (Christchurch); Lt. A. A. ’’•’artin. R-A.M-C., afterwards Major in the N.Z. Medical Corps (Palmerston North); Lt. Angus M‘Nab, R.A.M.C., attached London Scottish (Otago). He was a brother of the late Hon. Dr. R. M‘Nab M.P. for Hawke’s Bay; Capt. Walter R. Russell, Northamptonshire Regiment (Hawke’s Bay).
