LONG-SERVICE TARS.

DEBARRED EMPLOYMENT. BY UNION RULES. London. Jan. 4. Admiral Beatty, interviewed, said that owing to the reduction of the naval personnel 20.000 long service men who fought gallantly in the war were now unemployed and suffering distress in spite of their pensions. Admiral Beatty gives details of the brave deeds of several men whose families are practically starving. He points out that skilled mechanics, electricians and engineers are handicapped in seeking employment by the trades union bar regarding apnrenticeship. He suggests that the bar should not be applied to them and appeals to employers to give discharged naval men an opportunity of earning a Jiving. —(A. and N.Z.)
