VITAL STATISTICS.

NAPIER. Napier vital statistics for December were :—Births 46, deaths 15, marriages 22. The totals for the year 1919 were: Births 485, deaths 210, marriages 181. The figures for 1918 were: Births 490, marriages 122, deaths 331. HASTINGS. The Hastings vital statistics. for the year just concluded are: Births 346, marriages 121, deaths 90. For the previous l year (1918) the figures are: births 346, marriages 97, deaths 167, 92 persons dying during November and December. In comparing the figures it must be remembered that the influenza scourge; in November and December 1918, will explain the preponderance of deaths in that year, whilst the return of thousands of v©ung soldiers from the war will account for the increase of marriages in 1919.
