Mr. G. K. Sinclair left Hastings this morning for Rotorua.
Mr. Leslie Wall; of Hastings, who met with an accident recently, left Hastings by mail train this morning on. a holiday visit to Auckland. Mrs. F. B. Mason, of Hastings, accompanied by her little daughter, left Hastings this morning for'Auckland, where- Mis. Mason will spend a holiday with her uncle, Mr. J. Evans, of Reipuera.
Mr. E. Perry, a. member cf the Wellington ’ Boxing Aesociatidri’s: Executive, who visited Hastings, to. witness the boxing match JLetveen Uron and Clabjjy, left for the capital city this morning. Mr. Godfray N. Pharyzon, who left Hastings* a few year® ago, for England, arrived , back last Tuesday, on a visit. Mr. Pharyzon will not take up his permanent residence in New Zealand for the present. Mr. J. C. Mandahl, a native of Norway, who had been in business in Feilding for the past 26years, has died at the age of 80. He arrived in Napier in the first Norwegian vessel which traded to New Zealand, Mr. W. W. Cook, of Wellington, Registrar General, »‘h> bus been visiting Hastings in connection with the Clabhv-Uren content, left for .the South this looming. Mr. Cook is a member of the executive of the Wellington Boxing Assoc aci •i. The Rev. S. F. Hunter, M.A., 8.D., of St. Paul’s, Oamaru, has been awarded by the Melbourne College of Divinity First Class Honours in the Honours B.D. group of “Biblical and Historical Theology.”
The death occurred on Wednesday at Morrinsville of Mr. Henry Grant aged 63 years ,one of the oldest residents of the township. Mr. Grant came from Yorkshire, and settled ini Morrinsville 35 years ago. He leaves a wife and two children. The death of Mr. Cyril Francis Scobell, a member of the “Diggers” Divisional Concert Party, occurred at Wellington Hospital on Wednesday after a severe operation. The deceased, .who formerly belonged to Plympton, Devon, England, served in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. Being qp able reciter he soon became known in the New Zealand Division, and delighted; many thousands of New Zealand soldiers as , a member of the Concert Party, within the sound of the guns at the front. Mr. L. A. Macdonald, F.R.A.S., of Hawera, died of pneumonia on Saturday afternoon. The late Mr. Macdonald was for some, time a teacher under the Wanganui Education Board, and later took up, farming pursuits with his brother m the Halcombe district. For the past three or four years he has been employed in the legal offices of Messrs. O’Dean, Haselden, ana Bayley, of Hawera. He leaves a brother, Mr. John Macdonald, of Island Bay, Wellington, and a sister, Mrs. Flora Davy, of Pukekohe. For over twenty years a member of the British Astronomical Association, he was an, amateur astronomer of no mean ability. Mr. and Mrs. C. Laver, of Nugent Street, Khyber Pass, Auckland, celebrated their diamond wedding on Monday. They were married on December 29, 1859, at St. Andrew’s Church, Great Yeldham, Essex, and left two years later for New Zealand by the ship Romulus, reaching Auckland in 1862. Mr. Laver took up his occupation of builder and contractor upon arriving in the new land. At one time he was a member of the City Council, and for 32 years he sat on the Grafton School Committee. Mr. and Mrs. Laver, who are now 82 and 80 years of age respectively, had a family of twelve children, all the surviving members of which attended the diamond wedding celebration, in which a I large number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren -also took part-
