Canterbury won the toss and elected to bat. Patrick and Blunt made 58 between them before Patrick was caught in the slips for 39- Gray and Sandman went cheap- Reefe, the Canterbury captain went in fifth and compiled 33 before 1# lost the wicket. Blunt, who had made 60 without giving any chances, was in with Thomas at the luncheon adjournment when the score was 148 for four wickets.
