HAWKE’S BAY v. CANTERBURY B. GOOD SCORING BY THE VISITORS. Christchurch. Jan. 1. The match between Hawke's Bay and the Second Canterbury Eleven commenced at Hagley Park, there being a fair attendance. The batting of the visitors was hardly up to major Association form, but some of it was very Rood. O'Brien, a batsman of the forcing order, not only put on runs freely, but made some fine shots, particularly on the off. Cane batted very soundly, but, like roost of- his comrades, showed bad judgment in running between the wickets. Canterbury's attack was decidedly weak. The bowling never looked to have the batsmen I stuck up, and most of the wickets fell through the batsmen lifting I them. The ground fielding, with few exceptions, was good, but the 'same cannot be said of the catching. , Scores: — HAWKE’S BAY. FIRST INNINGS.
