MARINE ENGINEERS’ STRIKE. FEW SHIPOWNERS AGREE TO TERMS. Sydney, Dec. 31. Some shipowners not .under the Shipping Controller have agreed to pay the men’s claims, .and their ships (the names of which are not disclosed) will oe manned and will sail shortly. > . . There are now twenty-six interstate and Island vessels lying idle. PROLONGED STRIKE . EXPECTED. PAYING OFF VESSELS. Melbourne, Dec. 31. The Shipping Controller ■ has instructed shipowners to give the masters and officers of the idle steamers a month’s notice owing to the possibility of a prolonged ADVANCE TO WHEAT GROWERS. (Received 2, 11.5 a.m.) Medbourne, Jan. 2. The Federal Government has arranged for the banks to advance farmers 5/- a bushel on wheat certificates, held in respect to the new harvest. —(A. and N.Z.)
