ITALY’S CLAIMSCONFIDENCE IN NITTI. ' Rome, Dec. 29. Signor Scialoja, speaking in the Senate, said that when Italy went to the Peace Conference she did not claim Flume, but merely supported Fiume’s request to be allowed to join Italy. Fiume was fully entitled to make a claim in accordance with the principle of self-determination.

The City Council, which withdrew its support when an anti-D’Annun-zio plebiscite was carried, has now decided to support him. in view of D’Annunzio’s statement that the Allie* had not sanctioned Italy’s compromise proposals. The Rome “Epoca” states that D’Annunzio decided to take a uew plebiscite. D’Annunzio’s supporters are disgusted at the new tura of events, and are arriving in Trieste daily. They state that food supplies and sanitary conditions m Fiume are becoming worse. Typhoid has broken out.
