FINANCES OF FRANCE.
NOT MUCH FROM GERMANY. CREDITS HANDED TO LEAGUE PRIORITY OF PAYMENT CLAIMED. Paris, Dec. 30. M. Koltz (French Finance Minister), discussing the financial situation in the Chamber* of Deputies, said that France was Germany’s creditor to the extent of 200,w0,000,000 francs, but payments that Germany has to make count for little in France’s budget, as the expenses of the army of occupation would swallow up the best part of the first of the German payments. M. Koltz added that France nad decided to place all her credits on Germany m the hands of the Leagueof Nations. Negotiations were already proceeding between the Allies in regard to France’s priority of claim. Referring to the supertax yielding 7,000,000,000 francs, M. Koltz declared that fiscal patriotism was as necessary now as the patriotism displayed in wartime, and addeu that there would be no mercy to those attempting to dodge the taxes. Referring to the economic outlook he advised France to take advantage of exchange where it was favourable, adding that there was no reason wire France should pay America and Britain high prices for goods procurable in Germany on more favourable terms.
