Mr. Justice Stringer was a pear senger for Sydney by the Manuka, which left Wellington on Wednesday. Mr. Charles Hawtrey, the populqx' actor, was married on Novembert<lo to the Hon Mrs. Petre, of Hertford Street, W., London, widow of foe late Hon Albert Petre, who died: in 1917. Mr. J. Cullen, 1.5.0.; honorary warden of the Tongariro National Park, has left Auckland with his family for foe park, where they wiH remain in camp until foe end of January. Inspector R. Marsackwho was re-, cently transferred to the charge of the Hawke’s Bay Police District has been joined by Mrs. Marsack who arrived from Wellington during the holidays. Inspector Marsack’s son and daughter-in-law, of Taumarunui have been spending the holiday period in Napier. At the championship lawn tennis tournament on Wednesday, prior to the presentation of prizes, Mr. Arthur Petherick, secretary of foe New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association, read a letter from the English Association stating that foe two English players Low and Beamish, who are to land in New. Zealand in about a fortnight, would make a tour of the Dominion on condition that the New Zealand Association paid their, expenses and gave them half the gate proceeds. This letter is to receive foe. immediate attention of the management committee.
