HASTINGS POULTRY SHOW
[to the editor.] Sir, —As an exhibitor for a number of years past, may I ask whether Utility breeders can rely on a little more consideration from the Hastings Poultry Association than in the past. Seeing that the Utility classes usually fill so well, why should not ‘birds of that section be allowed at least an equal opportunity of occupying some of the more prominent stands in the hall. Last year the Utility light breeds were deposited’ in a badly lighted room at the rear of the main hall, while birds representing very poor classes were givep much better positions in the main building. The consequence is that many visitors, being unable to find birds in Utility classes, often leave the hall without having seen the birds in those classes. That, in my opinion, is unfair to the exhibitors. While speaking on poultry matters may I be permitted to express the opinion, that the entrance money in the poultry section is too high, and is the means of prohibiting many good birds from being shown. I feet certain that the Association would benefit considerably were it to make a substantial cut in the cost of entering birds. Personally, I aJn exhibiting about eight birds, but the number would certainly have been greater were it not for the cost of entering.—l am, etc., “UTILITY.”
