THANKSGIVING SERVICES.
AT WAIPAWA
(Own Correspondent.) Thanksgiving services for the restoration of peace held on Sunday will be memorable in the history of the town bringing out what appeared to be the whole of the population. Larger congregations have not been seen in the churches, standing room in some cases not being available. A procession was formed at the Post Office at 10.30 and comprised returned soldiers, boy scouts and the two bands of the town, and traversed High Street and Kenilworth street.
I The Municipal orchestra assisted a strong choir in the musical portion of the service at St. Peter’s where an eloquent discourse was given b.v Canon Butterfield. At St. Patrick’s the Revd. Father Cahill preached a powerful sermon appropriate to the occasion. In the afternoon a service was held in the Municipal Theatre conducted by’ the Rev. Foston (Methodist) and Captain Christoffersen (Salvation Army) and was . largely’ attended. j AT OTANE. I .The. combined thanksgiving ser-‘ ; vice held in the Town Hall on Sunday afternoon was very well attended. The service, conducted by the Revd. E. Davidson, assisted by’ the Rev. Robertson and Mr. Hubert Powell, was listened to by an atten tiv’e and earnest audience. Air. G. McKay, chairman of the Town Board , read the Government proclamation, ! and the service was assisted by the ! combined church choirs and the i school boys’ drum and fife band.
