I COMMITTEE MEETING. I A committee meeting of the H.B. Agricultural and Pastoral Societv was held jester day, Mr G. R. Beamish presiding over an attendance of 15 members. Leave of absence was granted to Messrs IV. M. Smart. (J. E. Morra and G. Kelly. ’ In connection, with the recommendation of the Society’s annual meeting that classes at the Show should be included for purebred Romney Marsh sheep, Mr. Absolum forwarded. the following conditions to be j complied with if decided to include I classes that no artificial food such as ?5 ain .' nw;a l etc., be allowed ; that ‘ n ° “fusing, colouring or covering of any description be allowed ; that the sheep must be fairly shorn in judge’s opinion W'th No. 1 or 2 comb ; that no trimming other than clutching and cleaning be allowed ; all green food such as roots, oats, barley, mustard,' rap© and lucerne be allowed; that lucerne and meadow hav may be allowed. ’

Prize classes:—2 ram hoggets, Ist prize, £3, 2nd prize, £l:2 fams, 18 to ao months, Ist prize £3, second prize £l ; one ram 30 months ano upwards, (Ist ririze £3, second prize ■- 1 - These prizes to lie donated by Messrs Hutchinson and Son. Rissington. One. ewe hogget. Ist prize £3. 2nd prize £1 ; one ewe, 18 to 30 months with lamb, Ist prize £3, second prize £1 ; ewe, 30 months and upwards, with lamb, Ist prize £3, second prize £l. These prizes are to lie donated by Mr. S. J. Goulter, Clive.

There was considerable discussion on similar lines as at the annual meeting. Mr. Hassall thought the inclusion of these classes would cause a tremendous amount of trouble and endless objections would be raised. There would also he considerable trouble about shearing.—Mr. Coleman said thev were to be grass fed, and yet if there were outside grasses mentioned some people would take advantage. In his opinion it would not last.—Mr. Goulter moved that the conditions be accepted and tried for . at least one year.--Mr. Beamish said | at present very few sheep from H. B. J were being shown, and he thought it ; u good thing to try it and it would 1 encourage breeders. —Mr. Goulter said if the scheme was not successful this year, it could be tried in another form next year, such as a cup for most valuable fleece and carcases. More entries were requirj ed in the Romney class. —The enair- ! man said what was specially stressI ed in the conditions was the housing, , colouring and trimming and not so ( much the feeding.-—Mr. Russell suggested that the judge’s decision on these three points, be final—lt was suggsted that the feeding restrictions be withdrawn from the conditions. —Mr. Goulter said he prefered to see the conditions go through as set out. After further discussion it was decided that the classes be included ami the conditions accepted. Mr. G. Reynolds was thanked for a prize of £2 2- in the grass-fed section, this prize to tie the points prize. The following were thanked for prizes stated :X.Z. Romney Marsn Sheep Breeders’ Association, the Wheeler Memorial Shield for the best Romney bred ram bred in New Zealand (at Spring Show), winner to receive a gold medal; N.Z. Hereford Cattle Breeders’ Association £1 1/trophy, for best Hereford bull under Is months, and £□ 5.'- for best Hereford heifer under 18 months: N.Z. Jersey Cattle Breeders' Association, gold medal for competition in class for Jersey heifers; Heretaunga Co-operative Dairy Company. Limited, special jirize of £9 in butter-fat classes, competitors to have supplied lOOUlbs of butter-fat during the year. The following were thanked for donations to the general prize fund : Mrs. W. J. Douglas £3, H. H. J. Mackenzie £5 5, -, P. Pattnllo £2 2/-, Jas. Macfarlane I’2 2.- E. C. Clark- . son £2, W. A. Macfarlane £2 2r, L. G. Crosse £l 1.-, A. Ellis £3 3 ’-, J. S. Handvside £l, and I*. Robertson £l. New members were elected as follow : Jas. L. Angus, Havelock North, A. I. Rainbow, Hastings, C. Burtton Westshore. L. H. Lamer, Blackhead, R, J. McCuticheon. Greenmeadows, W. Go'dstone, Frasertown, John | Shore. Tauroa. I On the recommendation of the Ag- I riculturai Department, it. was decided to have a section for the best acre or half-acre of maize, the prizes to be Ist £2 (and cup), 2nd £l, and 3rd 10 -. Mr. ( odd offered to give a £3 3jirize for the best- crop of potatoes, the offer being accepted with thanks. The H.B. Ploughing Association intimated that they had been.unable to get a paddock at Waipukuraii for the ploughing match, and the Takapan Club had taken it- ovcr.--It was decided that, the Society’s donation be given to the latter. Accounts amounting to £23 11,7 w<- le passed for payment.
