AMERICA’S RECOGNITION OF PROTECTORATE. London, April 24. The. Press Bureau announces the publication by the Foreign Office of the note communicated to General Allenbv on April 22 by the United States'Minister at Cairo announcing that President Wilson recognises the British Protectorate over Egypt proclaimed in December, J 914. The President reserves for further discussion the details of the recognition, along with the question of the modification of any American rights which the decision would entail. President Wilson and the American people have every sympathy with the legitimate aspirations of the Egyptian people for a further measure for self-government, but view witn regret any effort- to obtain its realisation by resort to violence.
