NAVY LEAGUE.

H.B. BRANCH MEETING. A meeting of the executive committee of the Hawke’s Bay branch of the Navy League was held at Napier last evening, Mr. G. Morley presiding. Apologies for nonattendance were received from toe Rev. J. A. Asher am! Captain White-Parsons. A considerable amount of cones pondcncc was received from the head office of the league in London, with which the local branch >n in very' close touch. It was stated that the authorities nt, Hom; keenly interested in all overseas branches and from time to tun© convey the fullest information as to the activities of the League in London and elsewhere. Mr. R. D. D. McLean, the patron of the local branch, is a prominent member of the executive in London, and several interesting communications from him were read at the meeting. Messrs AV. A. Armour and J. Hislop were appointed a .sub-cominittcn to arrange for the distribution of the school text book “Our sea. power, its story,-and its meaning.. In connection with Admiral Jellicoe’s visit to New Zealand the secretary, Mr. C. F. 11. Pollock, was authorised to obtain from the Wellington branch particulars as to the movements of 11.M.5. “New Zealand,” so that suitable arrangements can be made for whatever functions Napier may be called upon to provide. It was suggested that when the picture of the German naval surrender is shown Tn Napier, an endeavour should be made to allow of all junior members of the League attending an afternoon exhibition. The scholars of the various H.B schools arc showing the keenest interest in the Nary League, and at, the meeting a number of names of junior members wore handed in. It is the policy of the League generally and of the local branch in particular, to offer every kiducement to boys and girls attending schools to In come members of the League and to show a practical interest in the Nar y and what, it stands for. A large number of membership badges and diplomas have recently boon received and those will he dis tribiited amongst junior and senior members as opportunity offers. Delegates wore appointed to nt tend the meeting which is to be held to-night to arrange for the Peace celebrations.

Mrs. and Miss Handyside, arrived from the South last night and me at the Masonic. Mrs. Cameron of Gisborne is spending a holiday at, Napier. Mrs. Davis, of Oakbourne, left, Napier yesterday for Tokomaru Bay. Mr and Mrs .Newman, of Cis borne, who hare been visiting Wei lington arrived in Napier yesterday and proceed North to-morrow. Mr. I’. K. De ('astro, late were tary the Education Department of New Zealand, and retired on superannuation, has now .settled as a resident in Hastings. Air. W. S. La Trobe, superintendent of Techriieal Education, who Inis been on an inspection visit, to Napier, went to Gisborne last, night. -Messrs Lambey (2), Taylor, Verry, Julian, Thornley, Palmer and Napier, of the Pihania -Waverlry Bowling teain are at the Caledonian.

Mrs. Blair .of Rotorua, is spending a few days at the Caledonian, Napier prior to proceeding to We! lington where she will meet her hits band on his return from lite front. _Mr .and Mrs. and Miss Getldis, of Wellington, who have been visit ing AVaikaremona. are spending a few days at Napier and are at the Caledonian. Mr. and Mrs. J. Macdonald, of Wellington are also spending a holiday here.

Mr .and Mrs. Gifford Moore, of Palmerston North. Mr. L. H. and Aliss AlcHardy, of Blackhead, Dr. South and Mr. Basham ,of Onawa. Air. and Air;-, J. Anderson, Major ami Mrs. Anderson and Miss Anderson ,of Christchurch. all of whom have been visiting Taupo and who have been at the Masonic for a few days, returned to their respective homes to-day.

A team of cricketers comprised of pupils from the Wanganui Technical College, arrived in Napier last night and to-day engaged in a match with the first eleven of the Napier Technical College at Nelson Park. The visitors are the guests of the Napier College boys and are being afforded, an enjoyable stay. Swimming competitions were held at the baths this morning, after which the boys were motored round the suburbs. Tonight they will be entertained at a, social evening.
