MORE INSPECTORS WANTED.

[TO THE EDITOR-1 Sir, —I have been waiting for you to take up your pen upon the subject of borough sanitation, but you evidently consider the war news of more impostance. Most of us, I think, are fed up with the German atrocities and such like and prefer to read something more constructive and edifying now the war is over, as regards the sanitation of the borough : How is it that Hastings is behind most other places inj this matter. The present system of removing rubbish from private and business premises is ridiculous and was considered obsolete twenty years ago in most towns of the size of Hastings. A new system has been decided upon, but why defer the operation till April, when millions and millions of flies during the coming hot months will breed and spread disease. Then, again, this borough is too large for any one man to inspect thoroughly if he visited each place every thiee months. Anyone can point to objectionable and disease spreading agencies in the middle of the town. What about the cattle sale yards within a chain of i lie Post Oliice What about the i übbish tips on empty sections right in the borough ? Besides all these, .here are dwelling houses in the borough to let which are not connected with the sewer and dozens of houses have recently been let without any bath room or decent sani- . trv conveniences. New comers have been disgusted but evidently forced to take some place or leave, as one iamilv to my knowledge did--till t here* was a decent house available, 'i he question of sanitation is one i rat will hat e to be dealt with at mice if Hastings is to become a healthy, wholesome place to live in, and the newspapers could help inacrially in ventilating the question ■■ •id giving useful suggestions.—l am, C *’ PATER FaMILIAS.
