The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. Killner, Lyndon road, will be pleased to hear they are recovering from their attack of influenza. Lieut. B. W. Millier, an old Napier boy, has been discharged from camp, and reaiumed h : s position as chief clerk of the Marine Department. Mr. Evan Parry, Chief Government electrical engineer, has resigned his position to take up an appointment in the Old Country.— Press Association. Mr. William Asher, father of the Rev. J. A. Asher, of Napier, died at Invercargill on Wednesday. Deceasd was a well known resident of that district and was over 80 years of age. Cable advice has been received by Mrs. W. Kaye, of Hastings, that her husband, Corporal W. Kaye, of the 37th Reinforcements, was admitted to a hospital in England on November 12th., suffering from wounds in the neck. Mr. John Cameron, relieving manager for the A.M.P. Society in Nelson for the past few months, died suddenly on last Thursday morning from heart failure. Mr. Cameron leaves a widow and a family of two children at Sydney. The death took place on Wednesday of Air. Henry Oben, proprietoi of the Shamrock Hotel, Molesworth street, Wellington, and a member of the executive of the Licensed Victuallers’ Association. He was well known in various parts of the North Island, and took a keen interest 111 all kinds of sport. In his 74th year, Sir Frederick Bridge, who has held the post ol organist at Westminster Abbey for 43 years, has decided to retire at the end of this year. To distinguish him from his brother. Dr. J. C. Bridge, organist of Chester Cathedral, he was often referred to as "Westminster Bridge.” Air. S. Hill, Permit Officer at Auckland, has received the following telegram from the Alinister of Defence, Wellington“l have much pleasure in informing you that Sec-ond-Lieutenant W. J. R. Hill has been awarded the Alilitary Cross for gallantry on the field of action. 1 sincerely tfegret he has not survived to receive personally such a- coveted decoration.” An old Hawke’s Bay pioneer passed away, at the residence qf his son-in-law, Air. Charles Beil, Hast ings, yesterday, in the person of Mr. Israel Trask. Deceased, who had reached the ripe old agte of 87 years, settled in Aleeanee about 40 years ago, when that district was a flourishing centre, and, during his residence in the Hastings-Napier districts, he was highly esteemed as an honest and an upright citizen. His wife predeceased him by some years.
