WAIPAWA.
(Own Correspondent). Mr. E. H. Brewer has closed his dental establishment temporarily to enable him to assist Mr Tod, chemist, in his work of making up prescriptions during the influenza epidemic. Mr. E. E. Smith, Dalge.ty’s local agent, has been instructed by his firm to place his car and personal services at the disposal of the local medical practitioners. The inhalation .chamber continues to bo well patronised daily and over 400 took advantage of the process on Friday last. It was the second institution of its kind to be set up in the Dominion and to this may be attributed to a great extent the mildness of the epidemic in the town. It may be remarked that on medical testimony Waipawa. is one of the healthiest towns in the Dominion. Owing to the urgent need for medical assistance at Dannevirke, Dr. Deck, of Waipawa, has taken up professional duties in that town. The death is reported from Christchurch of Mr. W. Little, of Argyll, Waipawa. Deceased was a wellknown authority on the breed, of Leicester sheep and was visiting Christchurch to act as judge at the Metropolitan Show, and whilst there contracted influenza from which he succumbed. He was held in the highest esteem, throughout the Hawke’s Bay district, and was for many years'a member of the Waipawa County Council.. Much sympathy is extended to his widow and family. The death occurred at the private hospital Wainawa, on Sunday moraine, of Mr. Keith White, of Porangahau. Deceased was brought to the institution on Friday last suffering with an acute attack of pneumonia, from which he succumbed. Deceased was a- brother of Messrs Bert and Ernest White, of Porangahau. Mrs. John Bibhy Onga Onga and Mrs. C. Pattison of the “Brow,” Waipawa. Deceased leaves a widow and one child, both of whom are seriously ill with influenza. 'Widespread sympathy is felt for the bereaved family and relatives. Donations are. solicited by the Waipawa Patriotic Society for funds to erect a memorial to fallen soldiers, the form of which is to be decided on at a future meeting of subscribers.
