Sailings of steamships exceeding 500 tons gross between the United Kingdom and oversea ports, excluding cross Channel traffic, exceeded 7,500,000 tons in October.—(A. and N.Z. and Reuter). BRITISH WARSHIPS COLLIDE. AUSTRALIA RAMMED BY THE NEW ZEALAND. (Received 21, 11.15 a.m.) Sydney, Nov. 21. A recently returned blue-jacket states he was aboard the warship Australia when she was rammed by the warship New Zealand. The vessels engaged were in a decoy expedition in the vicinity of Heligoland The accident was caused by an error in executng an order. The Australia was badly but managed to crawl home. He added: — “Only the fog saved us, as there were plenty of German submarines about. We would not have had a chance if one had spotted us.”—(A. and N.Z.)
