HASTINGS RED CROSS WORKERS.

ANNUAL MEETING

The annual meeting of the Hastings Red Cross Workers was held yesterday, his Worship the Mayor presiding. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year : —President, Lady Russeil; vice-presidents, the Mayoress and Mesdames Tosswill, J. H. Williams, Colebourne and Miss Williams ; hon. treasurer, Mrs. Anderson ; hon. sec., Miss N. Roach; executive, Mesdames Grainger, Baird, W. Wellwood and W. Watson.

ANNUAL REPORT AND BALANCE-SHEET.

The secretary, Miss N. F. Roach reports that this year the Red Cross Workers are showing a balance-sheet for only nine months as Mr. Kinniburg, officer in charge of War Funds, asked for statements to be sent in in March to forward to the Government. The year has been most successful both financially and otherwise. The public have subscribed liberally and the workers have done excellent work. £2367 10/11 has been collected with donations, collections and Red Cross shops, of which £2341 7/2 has been sent to help various causes, £340 15/2 has been spent in buying material for garments for the hospitals and hospital ships, £45 0/5 was spent in cleaning shops, washing table covers, stamps and stationery, leaving a credit balance in the bank of £234 6'B. We have sent to the depot in Wellington the following articles:—466 pyjamas. 44 pairs slippers. 151 pairs socks, 70 khaki shirts. 20 white shirts, 34 day shirts, 10 bed (flannel) jackets, 116 woven under pants. 80 woven under vests, 18 flannels under shirts, 18 mufflers, 3 pairs bed socks, 2 pairs mittens, 6 bundles old linen, 17 treasure bags, 2 balaclavas, 10 face washers. The following is the statements oi receipts and expenditure Receipts. —Cash at Lank of Xesv Zealand £596 18/6, .proceeds .Red Cross shops, collections and dona tions £2367 10/11. Expenditure- —Donation Prisoner of War Fund £2OO, Y.M.C.A. £lO5 6/7, Church Army £270, British Red Cross £1307 0/7, Egypt and Asia Minor £lOO. French Red Cross £l, Italian Red Cross £5O, Wellington Red Cross £l5O, Napier Hospital £125, Trentham Hospital £lB, Featherston Hospital £lB, material for comforts £340 15/2, rent £27, cleaning shop, stamps, stationery, etc. £l5 7/11. chronicles N. Z. Expeditionary Force £2 12/6.—£2730 2/9. Balance (cash at Bank of N.Z) £234 6/8. — Total £2964 9/5.
