GERMAN COLONIES. i RETENTION PROPAGANDA RESUMED. (Received 17, 2.30 p.m.) London, Aug. 16. The German Press has restarted the propaganda emphasising the essentialness of the colonies. j General Hindenburg, in a message says: “We must have ouir colonies beoause without raw materials inuustry is impossible.” I General Ludendorff says: “The possession of colonies is inseparably connected with Germany’s future.” | The Grown Prince expresses pride and gratitude for the defenders of German kultur m the colonies. — (Reuter). EX-CZjAR’S DIARY. MAX GOD HELP US. (Received 17, 1.50 p.m.) London, Aug. 16. _ The Russian paper “Izvestia,” is publishing the diary of the ex-Czar. It was seized after his execution. The entries on the 11th March, 1917, written at Pskoff, read as follow: — “I went for a walk, and after tea read and played dominoes. Russky came this morning and said the revolution was spreading- The opposition of the social democrats makes the Cabinet powerless. My abdica- , tion is necessary. Russky transmit--1 ted the conversation to the commanders at the front, and they replied that to save Russia and keep the army quiet I must make up my mind to take this step. I have, consented to leave Peskoff after this. My experiences are weighing heavily upon, me. Mav God help us. All around are treachery, cowardice and deception.” ' AERIAL ACTIVITY. (Received 17, 3.25 p.m.) London. Aug. 16. A French aviation communique reports : Our bombing squadrons dropped 32 tons of projectiles in the battie zone, also behind the front.
