FRENCH LINERS SUNK.
London, Aug. 14. The French liners Djemnah and Australicn were torpedoed. In all 4-12 of the Di<innah’s and three <>f the Australicn’s passengers are missing. (Received 15, 11.50 a.m.)
Paris, August 14. The Djemnah was sunk on July 1-lth.
The Australien was torpedoed on July 19th. and foundered after burning. Seventeen of her crew were killed and three passengers aro missing. D-18 were saved. Both the Djemnah and the Australien were convoyed. Another ship was torpedoed with the Austranen but it was not sunk.— (A. and N.Z.) j IN AMERICAN WATERS. I MORE VICTIMS, j Washington, Aug. 13. The Navy Department announces that the Norwegian steamer Somerstad was torpedoed on Monday. There were no casualties. Captain Hansen saw the wake of the torpedo, and the engines were, reversed, avoiding the torpedo, which, however, veered leftwards and, returning, hit the vesse.l amidshipsAn Atlantic port reports that the missing schooner Tyushla has arrived with crews of three lordepoed fishing boats.
