WOOL COMMANDEER.

APPROVED BY POVERTY BAY SHEEPFARMERS.

Gisborne, Aug. 13/As a result of a canvass of the counties of Cook and Maikohu, undertaken by a committee of sheepfarmers, but not including many settlers in the back-blocks who could not be seen owing to bad reads, the following letter, signed by one hundred and eighty-five woolgrowers, representing the ownership of over eight hundred thousand sheep, has been forwarded to the Hon. W. D. S. MacDonald:—“Owing to the adverse criticism that has been levelled against the sheepfarmers of the dis trict of Poverty Bay by the Ministers of the Crown, the Domonion press, and the Sheepfarmers’ associations* in other portions of the Dominion, we the undersigned desire to state that we, have never personally or collectively shown any hostility or opposition to the Imperial authorities’ proposal to acquire our wool for a definite period after the war. and that we are in entire accord with the action taken by the Government in the matter-”
