KAIWAKA SOLDIER SETTLERS.

SUCCESSFUL ANNUAL BALL.. Williams and Kettle’s spacious wool store nt Port Ahnriri, was last night, again, the scene of a very brilliant and highly successful function- toe Kaiwaka Soldier Settlers’ Ball. A veiy energetic committee compris'd of the soldier settlers, has men hard at woik for some weeks, and as a result their efforts were jast mgnt erov.ned with the highest, success. 'i he Hall was charmingly decorated with monster palms and greenery and a gorgeous display of bunting. The floor was in excellent dancing condition, the two previous big dames having, as it were, paved the way. Di spite the threatening weather, a monster crowd assembled, and Lhe 3uo dancing couples ulio graced lhe flour were treated l<» a highly enjoyable time. Their ctijo.Miient was largely attributable to the inergies of the following capable M.C’s.—Messrs. J. B. L. Hammond (chief), I!. ArroJ. VV'. Cattanaeh, 11. Fanner. S. Gnrr, and B. Unite. The dance music was supplied in a very phasing style by Miss (.ox’s orchestra, of six instruments. Tho supp'-r department was under the supervision of J. B. Andreys (Caterers) and was a very credit able item. The tables were heavily laden with most delicious viands, while the. floral decorations, wnieh introduced our international colours, were a special feature. Um brilliant success of this event was no doubt the deserving reward of the young soldier lads, who have woiked so hard in promoting an effort in aid of one of the most, deserving causes--the St. Dunstan’s Hostel, and thereby helping to provide comforts for our suffering sailor and soldier lads, who are inmates of the institution mentioned. No possible praise can be too high for tho joint secretaries. .Messrs. H. Gordon Ld>vards and J. B. L. Hammond, who have labouied much, in helping to achieve this success. Very able assistance was rendered in the pteliminary arrangements, by members of the Port, bchool Committee and members of Williams and Kettle’s staff, and the committee are deeply giatetul for the assistance rendered. As a result of this splendid function the St. Dunstan’s fund v.ijl no doubt benefit very handsomely.
