SUPREME COURT.

Dunedin, Feb. 12. James Sutherland, charged with indecently assaulting a little girl, was found not guilty on the ground that he was not responsible for his actions. An oiMer was made for the detention of accused until the pleasure of the Minister of Justice is known. Duncan Allison was sentenced to three months on a charge of attempting to discharge a firearm with intent to do grievous bodily harm to Constable Fox at Milton, and to be detained for reformative purposes for not more than three years. David Hill was admitted to probation for 12 months on a charge of theft of £6 18/6 the property of the Government. Wanganui, Feb. 12. John Clark, travelling auctioneer was found guilty of setting fire to premises at Stratford. Sentence was deferred.

Catherine Milne Caine came up for sentence on charges of attempted suicide and attempted murder of her child. Mr. Justice Edwards deferred sentence in order to consult other judges. James Dickson was found guilty of committing an unnatural offence. His Honour said prisoner was an old hand and came from Vancouver. He regretted not having the power to order his deportation. Prisoner was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment.
