CHURCH ARMY DAY,

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 16th, 1918

rriHROUGHOUT the Diocese of Waiapu J- an effort is being made this week to raise a part of the £lOO,OOO required by the Church Army in England for carrying on work for Soldiers and Sailors on all battle-fronts. The Church Army provides: — Huts for soldiers on all fronts for recreation, reading and writing, and devotional purposes. (b) Travelling kitchens at the front for all soldiers, where hot soups and drinks can be obtained at any time of the day or night. (c) Maintains hostels in London for soldiers on leave. Meets all trains and boats for returning soldiers, and assists those without friends in England to spend their “leave time” as pleasantly and profitably as possible. (d) Provides places of recreation at the various bases of the Fleet for the use of the sailors. (e) Maintains Rest Homes for the > wives and children of sailors of the Grand Fleet when visiting husbands and fathers at different ports. ,(f) Provides and sends 5000 parcels weekly to prisoners of war in enemy countries.

The Church Army does not confine its operations to any one section of soldiers or sailors; it works for all, and our N.Z. Loys partake of the benefits it gives. No object is more worthy than helping the soldier at the front, and it is “ up ” to every patriotic citizen of the Empire to assist organisations which help the soldier to live better, fight better, and, if need be, die better tor their country and country’s need. Send your donations to A. W. HAMILTON (Hon. Sec. Military Affairs Committee, Diocese of Waiapu), Hastings. THE CHURCH ARMY. WANTED KNOWN. —That most of the 120 Labour and Rescue Home* of the Church Army, which before the war were for those in need, are now used as training homes for partially disabled soldiers of good character who desire to learn trades, while those fitted for farm work go to our training farm in Essex. Also, that our Fresh Air and Holiday Homes need funds for extension, as the Church Army has undertaken the care of children of soldiers for the duration of the war, whose mothers are dead or worse. Soldiers wives, widows and children are treated free of charge at our medical mission. The £lOO,OOO so urgently required by the Church Armv is to help in all its Empire work, whether for sailors and soldiers on duty, or their dependants at home, or for the rest-rooms and canteens for munition workers. Donations to be earmarked for the special purposes of donors and sent to REV. F. W. WHIBLEY, Hon. Sec. Church Army, Ormondville.
