TARADALE.
(Own Correspondent). A monthy social, which the vestrymen of All Saints’ Church decided to hold, took place on Friday evening in the Parish Hall. There was a large attendance, and all enjoyed the games and programme. Tre following contributed items: >So?gs. Miss Le Bas and Air. A. Russell; -Mrs. Harris gave a reading, and Mr. Reynolds recited. Air. Wiseman played some selections on his English concertina. Miss J. Thomas played the accompaniments. Light refreshments were handed round, after which the evening was brought to a close in singing the National Anthem.
The County Council have decided to build a concrete bridge over the wash-out on the Taradale road. The roads in the district are receiving a good coating of metal. A start has been made to alter the course of the Taipo creek. Inspector Bird was Visiting the local school this week. Privates A. Golding, E. Rundle, and W. Ormond, are home on final leave. A lovely afternoon greeted the ladies of the Taradale Wounded Soldiers’ Committee, for their Christmas gift afternoon, about 50 ladies being present. A parcel is going to be sen: to each soldier, containing tin of lollies, cheese, milk and coffee. sardines, extract of meat, jam, tied up with a pair of bootlaces. The ladies received a splendid lot of gifts. The following iadies sang:— Mesd-imel Anderson, Carter ; Misses Langley, and Thomas. A dainty afternoon tea wan handed round and greatly appreciated. Airs. R. Gienn.v, the president, in a few remarks thanked the ladies for the gifts.
