KIDDIE VICTIMS OF THE HUNS
N.Z. CHILDREN’S CHANCE. FOR PRACTICAL SYMPATHY. Following on an appeal to school children throughout New Zealand to show their practical sympathy with the victims of the German ailraid on the East End of London, the Wellington Education Board decided that children attending schools in the district be afforded an opportunity' of contributing a penny or more to the fund for the London sufferers. The children’s penny fund was suggested by' Mr. Hubert R. Button in a letter to the “Evening Post.” He said:— “Indignation and wrath burn in our hearts against the murderers and mu.tilators of tiny little school children, boys and girls alike, in London. They' were foully done to death, and in some cases worse than death, by German bombs. “The occurrence would appear to present the school children of New Zealand with a. splendid opportunity of show-ing their practical sympathy. I suggest, that every school child in the Dominion should give one penny <->ut of his own pocket, more if they like, to assist, relieve, and bring a moment of comfort and happiness to those poor little sufferers in London, their fellow-school mates. “The children could each bring their pennies to their immediate teacher, who in turn w'ould bam! it to the head, to be forwarded, say, to the Mayor of Wellington lor ' transmission to the headmaster of I the school in the East End of London where the tragedy occurred. I do not believe there is a single child in the country who would not delight to send his or her little mite to help I a. little suffering mate in London. If ( this thing were done ’rwere well it ! were done quickly. He gives twice | who gives quickly.
