Mrs. H. de Latour, of Kaiti, Gisborne, is visiting Napier.

Mrs. T. E. Cross left Hastings by the express this morning oil a visit to Palmerston North. Mrs. H. B. Lusk and daughter, who have been visiting England arrived back in Napier yesterday. Miss Wells, who has been on a short visit to Napier, left by mail train this morning for Christchurch.

Mr. and Mrs. E. Glendenning and Mrs. McCrae, who have been visiting the South, left by car to-day on their return to VVairoa.

Mr. and Mrs. Blythe, Mrs. and Miss Hutchinson, Rissington, and Captain and Mrs. Kennedy, Wellington, are amongst the visitors to Napier.

Mr. F. B. Poppelwell of Hastings has been accepted for active service. Mr. Poppelwell enlisted in November last but was then turned down.

Mrs. N. Thompson left Hastings this morning for Wellington, for the purpose <>f faiowelling Commander Wolsley (.i cousin) and Captain Stenhonsc. of the Antarctic Expedition. who ai- about to rejoin their vessels.

Last night the Hastings Methodist Choir presented handsome Gillette shaving outfits to Mr. John Lunt, and Air. Bryan Williams who are on the eve of departing on active service. The choirmaster (Mr. A. R. Don), in making the presentations referred to the fact that almost all their male choristers were now with the colours, and made an appeal to older singers to stand by the choir in these special circumstances.

Another old New Zealand veteran in the person of Mr. Patrick Ready passed away at the Napier Hospital yesterday morning at the age of 92 years. The late gentleman saw lengthy service in the Crimean and Indian War and also holds two medals for service in the New Zealand Maori Wars, having been first in the Imperial Forces, and transferring to the Colonial Forces. In 1869 he was Orderly to the Colonel Whitmore in the Field. The deceased veteran was accorded a Military funeral this afternoon when a number of veterans and other soldiers followed the mortal remains to the Naider cemetery. The Rev. Father O'Sullivan officiated at the graveside.
