The Hawke’s Bay Liberal League held a meeting in St. Andrew’s Hall last evening for the purpose of appointing delegates to confer with tho Hon. AA T . D. S. MacDonald in a conference to be held this evening at Hastings as to the representation of Hawke’s Bay, the seat for which has become vacant owing to the death of the Hon. Dr. AlcNab. The meeting, which was fully 7 representative, was addressed by Air. lan Simson and Air. G. S. Clapham. whose names have been mentioned as probable candidates. Mr. Simson said ho was prepared to stand down if a local man was selected. The executive wais instructed to confer with the Alinister as to the situation generally, and to make every effort to obtain the presence of delegates from all parts of the electorate at a convention, when the final selection of a candidate will be made.

It is understood Air. A. E. Jull, of AVaipawa. is willing that his name should be submitted to the convention of delegates for the selection of a Liberal candidate for the Hawke’s Bay seat, and that he will abide by the decision. If chosen he will contest the seat as a supporter of the National Government .
