WAIPUKURAU.

On Wednesday afternoon two school children mounted on a pony had a experience on the Racecourse read. The pony ran away, and the girls were ultimately deposited on she highway. A severe shaking was the only injury. A local branch of St. John Ambulance Association is now an established fact. Thirty members have ?nrolled in the ladies’ division and 2i in the gentlemen’s. At the adjourned meeting on Wednesday, the election of officers for each division aas proceeded with. For the ladies the following were elected: Superintendent, Miss R. Smith ; secretary, Miss Murray; committee, Miss Gilbertson, Mesdames Murphy, Reid and Hutchinson. For tne gents: •-■uperintendent, Mr. Wilson; secretary, Mr. C. D. Robertson; commit tee, Messrs. Petersen, Elliott, Wiltu.irt, Stark and Rev. A. W Stace. It is hoped to secure the services Ox Dr. Coats as lecturer.

The monthly Red Cross Shop day is fixed for the 7th proximo. Mesdames Owen Monckton, W. G. Paterson, and S. Simmonds and the Misses Johnston, of Motuotaria, will be in charge. A prize for homemade sweets is announced. The call for men and more men foi the firing line is still finding response here, though it would be hard to find any remaining eligible single men. Four married men on the staff of one local firm have enlisted.

Waggon loads of wool are daily moving towards the railway. Now that wool bales have arrived and shearing is in full swing the flock master nopes for a spell. Mr H. Stanborough, electric linesman on the railway, has received notice of transfer to Westport. Mr. Mace, of Auckland, has arrived to fill the post. The annual flower show in connection with St. Andrew’s Church, is to eventuate shortly. Workers have been alloted their tasks, and there is promise of a successful show.
