GALE IN THE TASMAN.

Sydney, Oct. 25. The tug Koputai has arrived much battered. She encountered a terrific gale. The sea smashed in her port side. She ran short of coal and was forced to use wood to work and maintain stearn. Distress signals were not noticed, but she managed to reach Botany Bay, and obtained sufficient coal to bring her to Sydney.
