NO HOLIDAY FOR BOROUGH EMPLOYEES.

(TO TH» RTHTOR I Sir, —I much regret to find that the Hastings Borough Council refuses to let their employees go to the Spring Show, for half a day, except on the understanding that they lose their half day’s pay. Now Sir the Borough Council as a body of picked intelligent men, know perfectly well that a labourer cannot lose even half a day’s pay in these days of high prices, without going back. Also if there is one day in the year that the men enjoy it is Show day, and I think I am speaking the truth when I say that the ratepayers to a man would not object to this kindly concession. I am RATEPAYER.. [Following our customary practice we have excised the portion of the aboVe letter in which an attack is made on a borough official. If the employees were refused the holiday it most probably was with the concn rrence of the Council. Ed H.B.T.]
