TARADALE.
(Own Correspondent). A memorial service was held in the Presbyterian Church on Sunday in memory of two of their congregation. Privates Roy Chalmers and Fred Marton, who have given their lives for their country. There was a very large congregation, the church being packed. The Rev Fish preached a very* impressive sermon, and at the end of the service. Mrs. O. Anderson played the “Dead March in Saul.”
We are very sorry to hear that Mr. B. Larsen. Clerk of the Town Board, is in disposed, and has had to seek medical advice. His many friends hope for a speedy recovery. There was a very large attendance of the Cadets at drill on Saturday afternoon. The visiting officer put them through their usual instruction in the Taradale Park. Mrs. J. P. Luke, Mayoress of WelFneton, was the guest of Mrs. G. McDonald on Sunday. .Mrs.. Luke left Napier by the mail train on Monday morning or Waipukurau. The weather during the last few days has been perfect, and we hope it will continue until after the Show as all are looking forward to it. The pupils at the district school cease work on Wednesday afternoon and re-open Tuesday morning, as Monday is Labour Day. The Motor Compay intends to stop running their bus between Fernhill and Taradale shortly. This will make quite an inconvenience to nearly a dozen children, who travel bv it to the Taradale school.
The members of the Presbyterian Church are to be .congratulated in having such an energetic person in the Rev. Fish. On Sundays he conducts their services, and during the week he is busy building a social hall where they will be able to hold their different socials in connection with the church.
