Mrs. W. McKinnon, of Awapawanui, arrived in Napier this morning. Dr. and Mrs. Harper, of Huntepville are visiting Napier. Mr. C. Kichmott, the famous Wellington singer, who has been in Napier for the past two weeks, returned home this morning. At last night’s practice of the Napier Orchestral Society, Mr. Spackman was presented by Mr. A Keesing, on behalf of the members with seven volumes of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Works.

Miss Phoebe Parsons, Wellington’s talented soprana, who is singing at the Pop concerts at Hastings on Thursday and Friday, arrives tomorrow night and will be the guest of Mrs. McDuff-Boyd, Lindon road, Hastings.

A quiet wedding was celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church, Napier, yesterday, when Mr. Patrick Joseph Cowen, was united in matrimony to Miss Ellen Maud Davis. Mr. and Mrs. Cowen leave for Wairoa on Friday.

Visitors at the Caledonian, Napier include :—Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence, Mr. and Mrs. Cathie, Johnsonville ; Mr. and Mrs. Alex Gilmour Dannevirke ; Mr. and Mrs Robinson Wellington ; Miss A. Searle, Wellington; Aliss Macdonald, Wanganui.

Mr. Charles Smith and Mr. Cyril Hyde, who have been on the staff of Mr. W. McCulloch for some time were met by Mr. McCulloch and staff last week and each presented with an illuminated watch on the occasion of their departure for camp. Mr. Hyde left by yesterday's mail train and Mr. Smith leaves next week.

The following members of the United Cricket Club have joined the colours :—Messrs R. Anderson, R. Bishop, W. Boiilnois, G. Burns, J. St. J. Hindmarsh, E. W. Smyrk, P. R. Smyrk, F. Wolstenhohne, H. Spence, J. White, F. Thorbum, C. S. Geddis, G. S. Leeder and others. Mrs. Maedonell leaves for England by the Turakina on November 3rd to join her husband, Captain Maedonell, N.Z.M.C., who will bo engaged in hospital duty in the Old Country for several months. The date of their return to Hastings has not been fixed. Mr. and Mrs. C. Leyland will leave by to-morrow morning’s express to take up their residence in Auckland, after spending a holiday in Sydney. Mr. and Mrs. Leyland arrived from Auckland in Hawke’s Bav 33 years ago, taking np their residence in Meaner, where they resided for six years and then removed to Clive. Grange, where they were engaged in farming pursuits until a little over 12 months ago,, when they came to reside in Hastings. Both are well known in Hawke’s Bay, where they have made themselves exceedingly popular by* their kindly and courteous disposition, and widespread regret will be expressed at their departure. Hastings’ loss will, however, be Auckland’s gain.

Hartree, (Wellington); Glendenning (Wairoa); Riddell, Selby’, Walsh, Ashcroft, Edwards, Cross; Messrs Hartree, T. H. Foster, Glendenniilg (Wairoa); G. Stewart, L. H. McHardy, (Blackhead); Riddell, Selby, Pulans, Tripe, (Wellington); Taylor Bassett, Sladden, Jacombs, Flanney Rogerson, Webber, K. Mcßeah, Stewart, Clarry, Walsh, Milne, Robertson, Ashcroft, Edwards, Harrison. Speedy, Crosse, McGilray, Bennett, Ross, Arlow, (Wellington) ; H. P. Bennett, (Gisborne); E. Glenny, (Dunedin), and Mr. and Mrs Cooper, (Gisborne). Mr. C. Roy Spackman, of Napier, who is to be married at Auckland next week, was last evening met by the Napier Savage t Club and made the recipient of a handsome oak silver mounted tea tray. Mr. C. H. Edwards made the presentation and made eulogistic remarks to Mr. Spackman’s great success as director of the Club, also pointing but that although he had failed to pass the medical test for the front he was helping the country in another way by bringing a new citizen. Pleasing reference was also mgde by Messrs J. W. Cargill, T. B. Bear R. L. Paterson and L. S. McClurg, the last speaker remarking that the guest's future wife was an accomplished pianiste with a Dominionwide reputation. Mr. F. S. Thomas, manager of the Princess Picture Co., Hastings, received advice last night that the much talked of picture “Women and Wine” has been passed by tiie New Zealand censor and will be screened at the Princess Theatre, Hastings, on Saturday next. *
