HAWKE’S BAY EDUCATION BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Education Board was held at Napier yesterday afternoon. Of the new board the following members were present:—Messrs. J. H. Sheath (chairman), J. Clark Thompson, G. R. Kirk, G. T. Wildish, W. Oates, J. H. Bull, G. F. Roach, G. McKay and R. Soundy. COWMITTEES’ RECOMMENDATIONS. The following, recommendations from committees and officials were adopted: Repairs to be executed at Waipawa, but applications for blinds, etc., declined ; Hastings Borough Council to be asked for interpretation of what was required at Main school, as extensive repairs have already been done under the council’s supervision; Mr. T. H. Lloyd’s application for Mrs. Pritchard’s (Maharahata) pay was received, and corfespondence regarding same forwarded to him ; Inspectors’ reports received; board approved of schedule of sewing submitted by inspector; the Dominion’s grading scheme for classification of teachers was adopted; application for shelter-shed at Dannevirke deferred for one month, but referred to School Committee in the meantime; Auckland’s resolution of recognising a standard of 12 square feet per unit of average attendance was adopted; a copy ■f the sub-inepertor’a report re-manage-«»f of technical classes-to-be sent to "petitioners and Technical Associations p a temporary school to be established at Kowhai road; directors’ monthly report adopted; the technical evening class pupils be asked to attend more regularly in future; Mr. Roley to be congratulated on the . attendance Gisborne. evening classes. The following of the foreman's reports were adopted:—-Additional outoffices to be erected at Clive; additional drain and a new cistern to be installed at Dannevirke South ; repairs to roof and two new tip-basins at Kiritaki : repairs to wash tubs at Waipukurau ; new damage and repairs to spouting at Matamau. The appointment of a lady teacher at Matamau w as confirmed ; al' inspectors’ reports to be t rented! confidentially in future. Leave of absence was granted to Misses JI. Burden, Hastings; N: Dunning, Hastings North ; I. F. S. McAllister, Dannevirke North : L. Anderson, Patangata; C. Earl, Napier Main; Lean. Sheronden, Smith, Waipawa; Mr. Kerr, Ma nga toro. SCHOOL COMMITTEES' CORRESPONDENCE. I Mr. R. Sheen, asked for the estab-j lishment of registered school at Wai- ’ piro Bay.—Granted. 1 It was decided to request the Government to have a medical inspection I made of schools north of Gisborne, and to ask for services of Dr. Ada Patterson, and, if nor available, that a Gisborne practitioner be appointed to make the inspection. j A considerable amount of discussion ■arose from iiie suggestion of Mr. Kirk, ; tnat in future an applications for al- ’ locations, repairs, etc., be deleted ironi tne board s order paper for tlie monthly meeting. Mr. Kirk considered it was a waste of time for the board to have to go into these affairs when they cou.d oe dei otmg their time to more important educational matters. The board agreed that there was a considerable amount of time wasted, and it was decided that m future all these matters be referred to the foreman, and that, provided tne chairman and secretary approved of the repairs, etc., they be executed; and tiiat the board choose a day once a quarter to deal with these matters. Accounts amounting to iZ9<"3 14/1 were passed for pajment.
