(Own Correspondent). An exceptionally heavy fall of rain was experienced here on Sunday, private records showing that approximately four inches of rain fell m 24 hours. The Porangahau-Wai-pukurau road was So effected. that on Monday morning the car which conveys tlie mails was unable to come in* to XVaipukurau. The river rose very' considerably, but has since subsided, though fences along the river-bed suffered to some extent.
