(Own Correspondent).
There was a moderate muster at the National Reserve weekly parade held last evening. Prior to the “fall-in” Sergeant "Walters gave the signalling squad half an hour’s instruction in semaphore drill. This squad has made good .progress, and a start will soon be made with the Morse Code. When the platoon fell in under Lieut. Cato model rifles were handed out and a commencement was made with the manual exercises.
The Revs. J. A. Asher and T. Tait have been visiting the charges of the Presbyterian Church in t Southern .Hawke’s Bay with the idea of defining the limits of parishes. The commission visited Marekeke yesterday accompanied by Messrs. J. Maudsley, J. P. Lomax and W. Cuthbertson, and it is understood that although the Marekeke people are not desirous of severing their connection with Waipukurau, yet for the good of the district, generally, they concur in throwing in their lot- with Takapau and forming a new charge. Alfred Annesley, who was until Monday employed on the Orua Wharo Station, died suddenly that night. The .deceased was on the eve of a visit to England, and had finished up and was going off the next day. The deceased was 65 years of age. An inquest was held at Orua Wharo. The funeral, which was on Wednesday forenoon, was largely attended by the station employees.
