After lengthy arguments the Full Court ordered the release of Franz Wallach, manager of the Australia Metal Company who has been under arresf since the 9th of July, on a warrant hy the Minister of Defence ns being a disloyad. and disaffected person. Senator Pearce, callefl upon to give evidence, said that he took action against Wallach in the interests of safety io the Commonwealth. He declined io disclose his reason for this action pleading privilege. The Court, by a majority, held that ihe regnlaiimt wherennder the action had been taken was ultra vires, and the imprisonment of Wallach was unauthorised. Wallach was thereupon released, but- was immediately re-arrested under the Precautions Act. The Federal Cabinet decided io appeal to the High Court against ihe Full Gouri’s decision.

There are over forty cases of meningitis in the Victorian military camp and ten deaths have occurred. WAR LOAN. SINKING FUND INVESTMENTS. (Received 10, 10.25 a.m.) Sydney, Aug. 10. The City Council proposes to invest its sinking fund in the war loan. The trade unions, and friendly societies are also investing their funds in the war loan.
