“MISS HOOK OF HOLLAND” “ Miss Houk of Holland." with its (plaint secticrv and cost limes, is evidently one of the most popular pieces ever produced l>y the Napier Operatic Society. HAYWARD’S PICTURES, NAPIER. Tim new series of pictures screened at the Empire Theatre, Napier, last evening, was quite up to the usual standard, and attracted a large audience. Among the films shown were: — “The. Cabaret Dancer” (star dramatic). Topical Budget (topical), “The Now Boy” (comedy). “Tim Path of Genius” (dramatic). “Business and Love” (comic), “Samarnkand and its Mosques” (scenic), and “Wifiles goes to the Den t i st. ” HASTINGS METHODIST CHURCH. THE CANTATA, “ DANIEL.” The. Hastings Methodist Choir produc'd the. cantata “ Daniel ” in the church. There was a large attendance. The choruses a ere well rendered, showing careful titiining, the voices blending nicely together. The two best items were undoubtedly “By th»? Rivers ot Babylon” anil “Sing, O Sing and j Magnify." by the full chorus. The' solos, trios and quartettes were excellent. The principal parts were taken by the following:—“Queen,” Miss : Wallis (ttoprano) : “Sisters of Azariah,” Mrs. Toss and Mrs. Pickering (atezzosoprano) ; “Azariah,” Mr. Ellis (tenor) ; “Daniel,” Mr. Prizzev (baritone); “ King,” Mr. Darvell (bass) ; “Herald,” Mr. Common (tenor): “Sdlo Voice.” Mr. J. W. Clapham (baritone); “President,” Mr. Pickering (baritone); trio oi' female voices, Mesda tries Goss and Pickering and Alisa Wallis; quintette. Miss Wallis, Airs. Goss, and Messrs. Pisz.oy. Martin and Thornley. Air. J. B. Young ably presided at the organ, the whole being under the capable eonduetorship of Mr. A. R. Don. PRINCESS THEATRE, HASTINGS. Included in an excellent programme now showing at the Princess Theatre is a .spectacular review of the Belgian troops, the famous Belgia.it cavalry being very prominent. The star drama, entitled “Dare-devil Detective,” is probably otte of Haye’s best plays. The following is an interesting synopsis of the picture. Detective Hayes is called in by Conti t La miner to investigate the disappearance of valuable works of art from, bis bou ■<'. The Count is engaged to Hilda Ragitold. the celebrated dancer. Hayes attends a reception at the Count’s house, and thinks be recognises her brother as a man well known to the police. The Count, gift's liis tinaeee a string of pea'b, to wear. Hilda, whois really in league with her brother, attempts to steal the pearls. Recognising Hayes as a detective, she complains to Iter fiance of his conduct towards Im:-. The Count tells Hayes that he is engaged to protect his property, and not to make love to bis future wife. Harry Ragnokl follows the hank messenger who is taking the pearls back to tb.e bank, sit’d jumps into the same eoinpartnient in the train. Hayes, disguised as a porter, is on his track. An exciting scene follows. Hayes chases Ragttold (wr the roof of the train, and Ragnold throws away a bag. The detective jumps otf the train, but finds that the bag is empty. Hon the pearls st re recovered bv Hayes forms it most interesliitg and sensational denouement. KING S THEATRE, HASTINGS. A very satisfactory audience attended the Crystal Pictures last evening, and the non programme presented met with general approval. Tim star teatore is a drama entitled “When Iron and Steel meet.” The plot of the picture is good, ami it is carried through in a manm'r which cannot tail to bold .the attention of the audience. The comedy element is well sustained b.v “Alabel’s Nerve,” another very streesuful film by the famous and popular Kev .stone Company. “An Exciting Honeymoon,” by the American Kinemn Company, (-onttiined a number of very amusing' scenes. The remaining films are excellent, am! complete a. Aery entertaining pro gramme.
